Fandom: Star Trek: Into Darkness
Characters: Leonard McCoy, James T. Kirk
Rating: Teen
Length: 19,129 words
Categories: Post-Canon, Friendship

Summary: Leonard is not enthusiastic about his new roommate. Jim, on the other hand, is ecstatic. Or maybe manic, which is more than slightly disturbing to Leonard. That, along with a little PTSD, concerned friends, late-night confessions and an unusual pet put McCoy and Kirk on the road to recovery in the aftermath of Marcus and Khan.

Notes: Klmeri is good at humorous story, adding layer of seriousness that add lots to zie characterization, and I was surprised how discomforting some scenes where Kirk and McCoy deal with being roommates and the mental health of Kirk. I found that this really fit canon for the new film series a lot better than other stories I read in this fandom.

Fandom: Star Trek
Pairing: James T. Kirk/Leonard McCoy
Rating: Explicit
Length: 22,561 words
Categories: Friendship, Academy Era

Summary: When Leonard shows up at Starfleet Academy, he wonders just how drunk he was when he met with the recruiter. He has no friends, misses his kid, and if drowning his sorrows doesn't kill him, PT will. Then he meets Jim Kirk again.

Notes: Leonard McCoy will always have my heart, doesn't matter which incarnation. I found Bones' alcoholism and his dealing with his depression shed some great light on his character. My heart aches for McCoy because I knew how McCoy was feeling dealing with how his depression made him intimidating to everyone that actively prevent you from trying to form connections. I love how Jim and Bones grow into their friendship were becoming close help relieve some of their real life pains even though there is bumps along the way.

Haven: Cold Light by [archiveofourown.org profile] novembersmith [Audrey/Nathan/Duke, Explicit, 32,936 words]
"Parker," Nathan says in greeting as she comes up beside him, shoving her hair behind her ears and squinting down at the rocks by the pier. They've got the floodlights on, silhouetting the scene in long, deep shadows.

"What have we got?" she asks, no-nonsense and on point, as always.

"You're going to love this," he assures her, and she cocks an eyebrow at him, clearly intrigued. "Go on. What weird mythological creature *haven't* we covered yet?"
Everything I could ever want in a Haven story is in this fic, having Nathan, Audrey, and Duke ending up together is just the best topping on already great cake.

Naruto: I got nostalgic to read Naruto fics for some reason and found some good ones.
A Thoughtful, Moving Exploration of Passionate Youth (or here) by [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden [Gai/Iruka, NC-17, 15,424 words]
It said something about Gai that Iruka was actually unsure whether that was a line.

Castle by the Sea by Hey Diddle Diddle [Kakashi/Gai, PG, 1,302 words]
...or, The Life and Times of Hatake Kakashi, through the Eyes of a Romance Novel. Kakashi reads romance novels for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of his mother, and because of Maito Gai.

Star Trek XI: The Greater Good by [livejournal.com profile] emiliglia [Kirk/McCoy, Sulu/Chekov, Spock/Uhura, NC-17, 29,020 words]
AU. Doctor Leonard McCoy thinks he's getting by, working as both a surgeon and a researcher at UCSF Medical Center. A chance encounter with Lieutenant Jim Kirk - who's changed since they first met five years before, and not for the better - forces Leonard to face reality about his own situation while trying to keep Jim from heading down the same path. So good, I read this one really quick, and was sad that there wasn't anymore to read, lovely AU.

Sucker Punch: forgive me darling, for every word i say (my heart is just too full of you) by [livejournal.com profile] immortality [Blondie/Amber, Sweet Pea/Babydoll, Rocket/Babydoll, R, 33,680 words]
AU. At prestigious Lennox Academy, every girl has her role, something which is especially true for a group of four loosely connected girls: there's Sweet Pea and Rocket, step-sisters and co-captains of the intramural soccer team who couldn't be any less alike; Blondie, the notorious bad girl with a reputation that precedes her; and Amber, the popular junior class president. However, the girls' neatly defined lives are thrown into chaos by the arrival of the new transfer student Babydoll and some startling revelations about themselves and each other. This was lovely, full of emotions and was so dreamy and hopeful, made me happy to read it even when drama was happening. Love that it was also set in period.

The Eagle: Fighter (or here, or here) by [livejournal.com profile] planjane [Esca/Marcus, Explicit, 65,291 words]
Marcus Aquila is an undercover Metropolitan police officer. His assignment is to infiltrate a slave-trafficking organisation which trades in men, bought and sold to fight in cages, sometimes to the death. When he makes the impulsive decision to intervene during a 'kill fight' involving a fierce young fighter called Esca, Marcus inadvertently finds himself the owner of his very own slave. Now Marcus has to find a way to complete his assignment, as well as gaining Esca's trust, without blowing his cover. The question is, can he do it before the secrets and lies catch up with him, and Marcus loses everything?

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a spouse -- or the nearest set of curtains to hide behind, if you were to believe Mr Charles Xavier. Little does he know that he himself will soon put test to that very truth.

What Not To Expect When You're Not Expecting It by [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden [Erik/Charles, Explicit, 9,659 words]
“I wasn’t hiding it from you. Honestly, I didn’t know for certain until yesterday, which I think we can agree was bad timing and not the sort of thing one springs before the heat of battle,” Charles says earnestly. This is the best kind of crack go read it.

Ask Me How by Fahye - Gen, PG-13. Funny the way that the past tense only works in one direction: you can be brother to a corpse, but it can't be brother to you. (4,726 words)

Sherlock BBC: They're Gonna Be All Right by [livejournal.com profile] impishtubist - Lestrade & Sherlock, John, PG-13. John tries to figure out just what Sherlock and Lestrade are to one another and realizes that not everything can be so neatly defined. A series of moments. "When I figure it out, you'll be the first to know. Well –" he pauses, considering, "maybe the second. Probably should let Sherlock know, first. I love the unique take on Sherlock & Lestrade relationship, very adult and fantastically real. (5,100 words)

Sucker Punch: "Within You" by [livejournal.com profile] ageless_aislynn - Blue, Babydoll, NWS. "Within You" by David Bowie. All he wants is to own her mind, body and soul. Is that too much to ask? The Pacific: Home and the Towns We Grew Up In by [livejournal.com profile] obviouslytomark - Snafu/Sledge, NC-17. The rumble in his chest, the one that bothered to care about a dead pet or a wisp of orange hair, couldn’t help deriving some kind of pleasure at the press of Sledge’s hand against his own. Believable scenario, feel bad for Diane though. (4,387 words)

Gossip Girl: bad sex, literature, and russian hats by [livejournal.com profile] artemis_sparks - Dan/Blair, R. Post S4. I want you, she thinks, and it doesn't make any sense because everything so far has been about as not-perfect as it's possible to be and he's Dan and he isn't right for her, none of this is right. I love how Blair & Dan interactions are so awkward and hot. Artemis_sparks knows how to write these two and can always make me fall in love with them all over again. (6,748 words)

Jim's life in Riverside is uncomplicated until two men, both equally mysterious and compelling, arrive in town, bringing with them the promise of change. I can't begin to describe how much I like these fic and sad to see this fic ends. Everyone is so in character, the trio's interaction is great, and Uhura's back-story is like my favorite part. A great snippet of an AU, I love the world building in this and I didn’t feel like it needed to me flesh out more. (2,535 words)

Stairway From Zion by [livejournal.com profile] daymarket - Dean/Cas, R. Orwellian AU. During the same raid that had Castiel crashing through the windshield of Dean’s getaway car, Dean loses both Sam and Anna to the hands of the angels. Human and angel should hate each other as circumstances dictate, but life has a funny way of changing the preordained path. I'm enjoying the dynamic between Dean & Castiel; the world-building is amazing, and just go read it I don't want to spoil this one. (63,000 words)

Castiel is an angel who has been cut-off from heaven to live with Man for a hundred years. Trying to right a wrong, he accidentally hires Dean as his rent-a-boy and learns a thing or two about being human. A Pretty Woman!fusion that I didn't know I wanted and with one of my favorite version of Castiel. Listen.. people be asking me all the time, "Yo Mos, what's gettin' ready to happen with Hip-Hop?"

I tell em, "You know what's gonna happen with Hip-Hop? Whatever's happening with us"

If we smoked out, Hip-Hop is gonna be smoked out. If we doing alright, Hip-Hop is gonna be doing alright.

People talk about Hip-Hop like it's some giant livin' in the hillside comin' down to visit the townspeople.

We ARE Hip-Hop. Me, you, everybody, we are Hip-Hop. So Hip-Hop is going where we going.

So the next time you ask yourself where Hip-Hop is going, ask yourself, "Where am I going? How am I doing?"

'Til you get a clear idea. So.. if Hip-Hop is about the people and the Hip-Hop won't get better until the people get better, then how do people get better? Well, from my understanding people get better when they start to understand that, they are valuable...
